Cocktails and Sharing Platter's at Lola Jeans
This is one of our favourite bar's in town. Situated on Market Street near the Theatre Royal the location is perfectly situated to meet up with friends. I love the decor and vibe - think chandeliers, flickering candles and exposed brickwork. Lola Jean's has a definite grown up feel and offers table service. We love their North East inspired cocktail list and Fog on the Tyne is probably my hubby's favourite drink at the moment. They also serve the most amazing steak sharing platters and triple cooked chips.
Dat Bar
Dat Bar is next door to Lola Jeans but couldn't be anymore different. This bar has more of an underground feel to it and specialises in Craft beers. The crowd is always mixed and I love the comic strip interior and 'proper' music. I'm not a great beer lover so always order a glass of prosecco (it's cheaper than the beer!) whilst hubby deliberates over something new to try. There are always regular favourites on offer along with something a little different. My brother still talks about the smoked beer he had here a few month's ago so a fab place to discover something new.
Macbeth at Northern Stage
We ended our evening with a trip to Northern Stage which is fast becoming one of our favourite theatres. We always find their shows push the boundaries of traditional theatre and Macbeth did not disappoint.
So we were back at home just after 9pm which is a far cry from our younger days when it was more like 3am. I do think we had a better time though!
Where are your favourite places to enjoy a night out in town?
I still haven't been to Dat Bar! There are always just so many places I want to try, it takes me forever to get to them all!
ReplyDeleteI do love some Shakespeare but haven't been to see a play for ages, actually I'm not sure I've seen one since I've been with Simon - I'm not sure I'd be able to convince him to give it a go. Over the years I've seen some amazing things - David Tenant in Hamlet, Ewan McGregor in Othello, a few outdoor productions at Stately homes in Norfolk and I've seen a couple at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon too! Love it!

Chloe I am BEYOND jealous of your Shakespeare activity! We have Hamlet with David Tenant on DVD but it's just not the same at all! I love outdoor performances - we are hoping to catch a performance at one of the English Heritage sites this Summer x
DeleteI haven't been to either of those places, I literally never go out unless it's for business or during the day with Holly, my goal for this year is to get a life!
ReplyDeleteThey are fabulous bars and definitely worth a visit!
DeleteI really like Lola jean's but still haven't been out in the evening (we rarely get babysitters) . Sounds like you really had a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteWe had a lovely evening thanks. Lola Jeans is a fantastic bar - I love the one in Tynemouth too x
DeleteYears ago I loved nothing more than a night on the town but after an accident a couple of years ago, I'm too anxious to go into busy bars, etc so these days I like to go out for a nice meal and maybe book a table in the corner of a bar for a few cocktails. Lola Jeans looks lovely, I'll check that one out xxx
ReplyDeleteAh Lola Jeans would be perfect for you - you can book tables and it's never been busy with people standing when we've been there. Lots of cosy corners too. Sorry about your accident xx
