I've spoken before about how Half Term can be an expensive time for parents. I do like to save up and treat the kids during the school holidays but I'm not made of money and I'm always on the lookout for free or cheap activities that they'll enjoy to keep them entertained and my budget in tact.
You might recognise some of the faces in these pics - the kids were invited along to intu Metrocentre last week to check out the centre's dedicated Halloween store and take these promotional photographs. If you're looking for a new Halloween costume (grown ups and kids), some scary accessories or some super scary props, I recommend you check out Halloween HQ (you'll find it upstairs in the Green Mall).
Back to free half term fun though. There are lots of FREE activities planned at both intu Metrocentre & intu Eldon Square throughout the week:
FREE Halloween Crafts at intu Metrocentre
- Monday 24 October - Paper Plate Ghosts
- Tuesday 25 October – Decorate a ‘trick or treat’ bag
- Wednesday 26 October – Make and decorate a Witch or Wizard’s hat
- Thursday 27 October - Make and decorate a Frankenstein jointed Puppet
- Friday 28 October – Decorate a Vampire Fang Mask
- Saturday 29 October – Halloween biscuit decorating
- Sunday 30 October – Paper Plate Ghosts
Head down to Exhibition Square to join in with the fun. No purchase is necessary. We've joined in with similar events before and they are always very well organised with good quality materials.
FREE Halloween Crafts at intu Eldon Square
- Wednesday 26 October - Ghoul school
- Thursday 27 October - Spooky spoons
- Friday 28 October - Frightening food
Big Trick Or Treat Trail at intu Metrocentre & intu Eldon Square
- intu Metrocentre - Sunday 30 October, 11am - 5pm (Pumpkin treat pots can be collected from Guest services in the lower blue mall next to the bus station escalators)
- intu Eldon Square - Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 October, 11am - 4pm (Pumpkin treat pots can be collected from Guest services near Debenhams or Fenwick)
Children are invited to wear their most spooktacular Halloween costume, collect a pumpkin treat pot from customer service desks then go trick or treating around the shopping centres. Participating retailers will display a pumpkin or a pumpkin sticker in their windows - little ones can then trick or treat at the till point to claim sweet treats and devilish delights! There is no purchase necessary and Pumpkin treat pots are available on a first come, first serve basis.
intu events are always well organised and fun. We've taken part in a couple now and the kids have always enjoyed themselves. There is no booking required and no charge. Activities are open to all ages but particularly suitable for children in pre-school and early years.
Let me know if you'll be taking the kids to enjoy any of these free activities and feel free to share your pics in our North East Days Out Facebook Group.

ReplyDeleteAbsoutley brilliant pictures of your lush family Sam! If we were around for half term I'd def be nipping over to the Metro Centre, but we're zooming down to London to see our old neighbours and friends which should be fun. Hope you guys have a good one :-)
