I didn't set off to write about our 10th wedding anniversary stay at Jesmond Dene House. After all, it's a place that has featured heavily on my blog in the past and I kind of wanted a 'night off' taking photos.
Who was I kidding though? It is almost impossible to stay somewhere as gorgeous as Jesmond Dene House and not write about it so here we go.
I had originally just booked a nice celebratory meal for Steve and I at JDH but I had been stalking their website for accommodation offers in the run up to our reservation. Then as if by magic, I noticed a 'winter warmer' deal which offered an overnight stay with breakfast from £99. This is a complete steal! We booked a superior room for £119 but I am pretty confident we were upgraded to a 'deluxe' room as it was our anniversary (we stayed in room number 3).
We were certainly wowed by the interior and loved the attention to detail with a personalised welcome note from the hotel's manager on our desk, complimentary ground coffee with cafetiere, white company toiletries and oodles of space, we knew we'd made the right decision to stay over.
I imposed a semi-ban on technology and we left our phones upstairs as we headed down to the hotel bar for a few drinks. We found the perfect spot by the fire and I reminded myself that we really need to pop back over the festive period and enjoy a coffee and mince pie. The lobby bar is lovely and cozy at this time of year. It felt like such a luxury to just be able to sit back and relax, drinking champagne and dipping in and out of our books. What a way to celebrate our anniversary!
After a few hours in the bar we headed back to our room freshen up for dinner and couldn't resist opening another bottle of wine from our room's mini bar. Ooops!
One of the best things about staying at JDH is that they offer a late check out of 12noon as standard AND you can have breakfast delivered to your room. Leisurely mornings are the norm here and the breakfast at JDH is the type of breakfast you need to take your time over. We ordered breakfast to be delivered at 10am and loved not having to set our alarms for once.
We definitely over-ordered but if you can't indulge on your wedding anniversary when can you? We were served a full cooked breakfast, a bowl of freshly baked pastries, toast and preserves plus a platter of cured meats and cheese alongside a jug of fresh coffee, a pot of tea and freshly squeezed juice. There was definitely no need for lunch! The breakfast at JDH is definitely one of the best in town.
We needed a lie down after breakfast and just spent a nice quiet hour watching TV before departure. We are always full of busy at home and watching tv with no distractions (especially in the form of laptops) was just lovely.
After checking out we decided we wanted our anniversary celebrations to stretch out for a little longer so popped along to Newcastle's Quayside where we headed to the bar area of Six on the top floor of the Baltic and toasted to a happy 10 years of marriage. Would you just look at that view! Oh how I love Newcastle.
If you are looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion in Newcaslte, I really cannot recommend Jesmond Dene House Hotel enough. They really go that extra mile to ensure your stay is a memorable one.
