We were recently invited to stay at One Frenchgate House which is stunning duplex apartment in a prime location in the heart of Richmond. The apartment features 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, free WiFi, complimentary parking as well as everything you'll need for a comfortable stay.
First of all - the duplex apartment is HUGE! There is plenty of space and One Frenchgate House is ideal for either larger families like ourselves or extended families if you wished to travel with grandparents.
There is a well-maintained communal garden with gorgeous views of the river Swale, Richmond Castle and the countryside beyond.
When I posted a few pics of where we staying on my Facebook page, a few people commented at just how white the whole place was and questioned whether it really was the sort of place you'd take your family? Well I can firmly say the answer is yes. There is a large tiled entrance hall for kids to remove their muddy shoes and although it looks very white in the images, it's actually very homely with lots of soft furnishings. My children felt very much at home and certainly didn't feel as if they couldn't relax.
We spent Saturday night playing board games and snuggled up in the lounge together watching Saturday night TV. Heidi loved the oversized bean bag and has now asked for one at home. If anything, I think all of this space meant that we could all relax even more so than we would at home.
Onto the bedrooms and there are two doubles on the main floor. Both furnished to a high level with all of the details you need (such as bedside lamps and plug sockets by the bed). Steve was also impressed to find an iPhone dock that actually fit his iPhone 6. I don't know about you but when we stay in some hotels we often found that their technology isn't regularly updated which is frustrating.
We let the kids take over the basement for the weekend and Harry thought he had died and gone to heaven. The free WiFi worked down there, he had his own Kingsize bed, private bathroom and HD TV. He could sign into his Netflix account too. If you are travelling with older children or teens, giving them this bit of personal space will earn you serious brownie points.
There is a single day bed too (can be converted to a double) which Heidi claimed as her own space. Everyone was happy.
There are plenty of places to dine out in Richmond (see here if you'd like to see where we visited during our stay) but the benefit of staying in a house like this is that you can properly relax and cook something if you don't fancy a night out. We bought a few bits and bobs from the market and the kitchen was more than suitable. There's a dishwasher too so you don't need to worry about the washing up.
For us, our stay at One Frenchgate House was perfect and the only bad thing about staying here is that you leave thinking you wish it was your actual house and not just a place to escape for a few days. I loved the central location meaning we could walk everywhere in Richmond and didn't need to worry about driving/parking (plus we could sample a few beers), the facilities and space that One Frenchgate House provide are second to none and most of all, I loved how there were plenty of opportunities for me to just relax. Whether this be taking photographs of the views in the garden, having the chance to enjoy an uninterrupted hot bath with my book or snuggling up with the kids watching TV. One Frenchgate House has it all.

Oh wow! Now this is our kind of apartment. It's got everything we look for when booking a mini break. I'm definitely adding this to my list for next time we are looking for somewhere. It's perfect for us. Heidi looks so cosy on that bean bag. You'll have to get her one for Xmas. I was crushing on this place hard when you posted on social media when you stayed and now I want to go even more! The great thing is Richmond is so close too, it's a getaway with minimal fuss!
ReplyDeleteLooks absolutely stunning Sam, we're much more into self catering accommodation these days, i bet you wanted to lock the doors and not leave all weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis looks gorgeous! Had a look on the website at the other apartments and they look equally amazing!
