The Family Return ticket - all you need to know
The new LNER Family Return ticket can save families an average of 54% per journey and is valid for up to two adults and four children travelling together. The LNER Family Return ticket includes guaranteed seat reservations, including reservations for under 5s. The savings really are fantastic and as somebody who loves to plan and budget, I like the fact that I now know families of up to 6 can travel between Newcastle and London for £129. I'm not exaggerating when I say this but this fixed-price fare is going to make my life SO much easier and is something the North East has been missing for years. It's also going to encourage me to travel to London with the kids more often and I'm sure we'll be visiting again at some point over Christmas using this deal. Here are some key facts you need to know about booking your LNER Family Return ticket:
- Up to two adults and four children can travel on the LNER Family Return ticket when booked at least 7 days in advance
- It's an all-in-one return journey at a fixed price without the need to buy separate tickets
- There is free Wi-Fi when you book directly with LNER and no booking fees
- You can save on a range of attractions with exclusive 2FOR1 deals available with your train ticket
Travelling to London when using the LNER Family Return ticket is such a breeze. Seat reservations are guaranteed which provides peace of mind. The seats are comfy, there is a range of snacks and drinks to purchase on board, the staff are all super friendly and the plug sockets and free WiFi (available when booked directly with LNER) are perfect for keeping the kids entertained en-route. The journey from Newcastle-London takes from 2 hours 40 minutes which is super quick and leaving the car at home means that Steve doesn't need to worry about driving and parking and traffic isn't an issue. It also means we can enjoy a cheeky glass of wine with lunch. Finding a budget hotel in London for a family of 5 is a tricky task and we quite often travel down to London and back in one day. It is a long day but 100% worth it if you're on a budget. If you plan carefully, you can normally enjoy one or two attractions, a family meal and a walk in one of London's fantastic parks all in one day.

You can check out the deals available online and print off your vouchers before travel here or if you're not sure where you'd like to visit or don't have access to a printer, you can collect a 2FOR1 voucher booklet from any LNER travel centre, have a browse and complete the vouchers at the back of the booklet. Some of London's top-rated attractions are included such as the Churchill War Rooms, Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition Tour, St Paul's Cathedral, City Cruises, Kensington Palace and ZSL London Zoo. The Tower of London is also included and is somewhere I would definitely recommend taking older children this half term. With the buzz surrounding the Royal Weddings this year, it's a lovely place to visit with children and there is so much to see, discover and learn including the famous crown jewels, the Ravens, the history of the tower, re-enactments, beasts of the castle, Yeoman wardens and more. You can easily spend half a day here.
Jack and Heidi are sharing their best guard impressions here. I would not mess with Jack! |
2FOR1 dining in London
As well as top attractions, your exclusive 2FOR1 vouchers also include a range of theatre tickets and 2FOR1 dining at selected family restaurants in London including lots of family favourites such as Sticky Fingers, Planet Hollywood and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Steve has dined at Sticky Fingers in the past and rates their chicken wings as some of the best in the UK and I can highly recommend Bubba Gump Shrimp in Leicester Square which is a must if you're a Forest Gump fan. Dining here is very family-friendly with lovely staff, children's meals being served in shrimp boats, the option to build your own sundae for dessert (which is always a hit with my three) and lots of photo opportunities and even the chance to play table football while you wait for your meal.
With fixed-price fares and guaranteed seat reservations for the whole family including under 5s, the opportunity to take advantage of faster journey times and free Wi-Fi on board when you book direct plus access to 2FOR1 entry to lots of top London attractions, shows, experiences and dining, there's never been a better time to travel to London. The LNER Family Return ticket between Newcastle and London is just £129 for up to 2 adults and 4 children when booked at least 7 days in advance.

Wow that is such a good deal and it's so good that larger families can enjoy the benefits too! So many deals and offers are for two adults and two children so it's great to see an offer like this available. Love that it also encourages people to take their kids to the capital too, I used to love going to London on the train when I was little.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got a really good day for it! We went to Bubba Gump Shrimp in Miami when we were on Honeymoon (not somewhere you'd think people would go on Honeymoon but we really enjoyed it!)
Brilliant to read about your adventure as always and a great reminder that I really need to plan a visit to London because I haven't been for well over a year!
It's such a great deal! I've actually booked to take the kids to London again next week as Harry was disappointed he couldn't make this trip. It's such a good saving for us as trips to London have cost us well over £200 in train fares in the past x
DeleteAmazing deal, never heard of it. Thank you for posting and your amazing account!
