I sometimes feel like Spain gets a bit of a bad reputation when it comes to discussing holiday plans but it is probably our favourite place to visit in the world. I love the laid back vibe, the wonderful cities, beautiful beaches, friendly people and of course the tapas and sangria. This post shares some of our favourite places and recommendations for places to visit in Spain with kids. Let me know in the comments if you have anywhere to add.
Where to Stay in Mainland Spain with Kids
If you're looking for inspiration for the best family holidays in Spain, check out this post featuring the best family holiday reviews in Spain. There's something for everyone from camping to luxury resorts. Spain isn't all 'Brits Abroad' and there are still plenty of places you can stay and enjoy an authentic Spanish holiday. Northern Spain is the perfect destination if you're looking for an active family holiday in Spain. There's loads to do in this area from bear watching to paddle boarding.
Calella de Palafrugell |
We're a big fan of staying on holiday parks and if you're looking for a site with absolutely loads to entertain kids, I can highly recommend Sanguli near Salou. There are four fantastic pools, kids clubs, a beach club, evening entertainment and more plus it's super easy to get to Barcelona or walk into Salou in the evening to watch the free fountain show.
Llafranc by night |
If you're on a budget, why not price up travelling to Spain by bus? We did this a few years ago and it was less than £1000 for the 5 of us in June (during term time I might add). We stayed at Camping La Siesta in Calella de Palafrugell which is a medium sized site and perfect for us. We loved the pool area, excellent paella and chilled vibe of the holiday. Calella de Palafrugell is my all-time favourite Spanish resort. The harbour is lined with tapas and seafood restaurants, the sea is crystal clear and there's an ice cream parlour too. You can take the beautiful coastal walk along the Lllafranc too which is gorgeous in the evening.
Visiting Catalonia with Kids
I've put together some of the best places to visit in Catalonia with kids here and if you're looking for somewhere special to eat in Catalonia, check out my recommendations here. Barcelona is one of my all-time favourite cities and we've visited with the children three times now. There is so much to do in Barcelona for kids from visiting the zoo to taking an open top bus tour and enjoying a trip to the beach or walking along Las Ramblas and enjoying the street theatre. We usually use the Metro to get around which is super convenient.

Pin Me For Later
I have only been to mainland Spain once as a child so don't really know what it is like, it is not somewhere we have even thought of visiting. However I do love the Spanish Islands, the canary islands are somewhere I really like x
