Raby Castle, Park & Gardens  


There's lots of fun to be had at Raby Castle this summer including: 

  • A Brand New Alice in Wonderland Trail at Plotters' Forest (tickets include 2 hours play in Plotters', an Alice in Wonderland Trail Sheet, All Day Access to The Walled Gardens and Deer Park, Complimentary Children's Trail for the Castle, Park and Gardens AND Kids Go Free to Raby Castle (Tues-Sun). Folk & Fairy Tales at High Force Waterfall 






Visitors to High Force Walterfall are invited to embark on a brand new Folk and Fairy Tales adventure this summer. Pick up a trail sheet at the waterfall kiosk (included with regular admission) in the car park and find all of the characters on your walk down to the waterfall. 

 Dogs on leads are welcome to join you. Why not book a table at High Force Hotel for lunch or pop in for a drink afterwards?

Beamish Museum 


Beamish remains one of my favourite days out. There's no need to book and daytime events are included with an unlimited pass. New areas have opened up just in time for the holidays - you can now visit a 1950s cinema, toy shop, record shop and milk bar! 

Dates to keep in your diary include:
  • 20 & 21 July (Meccano Exhibition and Attelage Horse Weekend)
  • 27 & 28 July (Beamish Tractor Show)
On special event days the car parks can reach capacity so either plan to visit first thing / towards the end of the day or use public transport. Check the Beamish Facebook Page for updates before heading out.

North East National Trust 


Personally I think National Trust Membership is worth it for the summer holidays alone! Use it to visit fantastic playgrounds at Wallington, Seaton Delaval Hall, Gibside and Cragside and don't forget to check out 'Summer of Play' with lots of activities on offer from circus skills and tennis to lawn games and crafts. 

Try somewhere new and visit Crook Hall Gardens, Lindisfarne Castle, Dunstaburgh Castle, Housestead Roman Fort or Ormesby Hall or stretch your legs and enjoy a National Trust scone after enjoying one of the many walking trails on offer.

Discovery Museum 


Exciting News! A brand new exhibition, 'Steam to Green' is opening at Discovery Museum on 20 July. It's FREE to visit and you don't need to book - just drop in during normal museum opening hours. 

This special exhibition looks back at the story of energy in North East England from the Industrial Revolution to present day. Expect lots of hands-on exhibits demonstrating wind and solar energy as well as historical science. There will also be the chance to see a cutaway Nissan Leaf (I'm really interested to see what's inside) and discover how the North East is leading the way when it comes to Green Energy.

Great North Museum 


Great North Museum is FREE to visit with no booking required. They're open every day across the school holidays too. Activities / Exhibitions over the school holidays include:

Wizard of Oz at Sunderland Empire

North Sea Weekender & Cullercoats Silent Disco 




This popular event covers a programme of fantastic activities across the North Tyneside Coast over the next few months.

Expect paddle boarding, surfing, music shows (a Craig Charles DJ set has just been announced), yoga, wellbeing, silent discos on the beach, sea dips, photography and more.

Seaham Food Festival returns to the coast on 3 & 4 August. FREE entry with no ticket required. I especially love the variety, from outdoor adventures at Raby Castle to the exciting exhibitions at the Great North Museum.
