A few people have asked for links to my Cornwall posts recently so I thought it would be useful to pop all of my posts together in one post. Simply click on the blue links to read more in-depth reviews/for more information.
We visited in February 2018 and although Cornwall is a long drive from the North East, it was more than worth it for us and I am so happy that we made the trip. The drive takes 7-11 hours in total - we broke the journey up and stayed at Stratford Upon Avon as a half way point.
If you don't fancy driving, there is a direct train from Newcastle to Penzance with Cross Country Trains which takes around 9 hours (I priced this at around £330 return for 2 adults and 2 children booked in advance with a friends and family railcard). Logainair also fly from Newcastle to Newquay and I priced flights at around £150 pp return using Skyscanner.
As a starting point, I recommend checking out our 9-day itinerary for driving to Cornwall from Newcastle. We did make a few changes (for example we stopped at Stratford Upon Avon on the way there rather than Warwick Castle).

Eden Project Recycled Shipping Container |
For something completely unique, you can stay in a recycled shipping container at The Eden Project. This was lots of fun, something a little different and is one of the few places where you can book a one-night stay.
Perranporth Beach |
Perranporth Beach was our favourite - it is a huge sandy beach with lots of ice cream parlours nearby and a bar on the beach.
St Michals Mount |
We spent a fantastic day climbing St Michaels Mount which is free to visit for National Trust members. The climb wasn't too strenuous and the views were more than worth it. The whole area really reminded me of Holy Island. There is a lovely playground right next to the beach too.
Padstow Harbour |
Rick Stein Fish and Chips |
Mevagissey Harbour |
There are lots of cute villages to visit in Cornwall. My favourites were Mevagissey and Padstow. Fish and Chips from one of Rick Stein's restaurants is a must!
St Ives |
St Ives |
One evening, we ventured down to St Ives and it is a gorgeous place that is full of charm. Expect cobbled streets, old-fashioned pubs and independent boutiques. We visited the cinema and enjoyed a wonderful Mexican feast at one of the restaurants here.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan |
The Eden Project |
We also enjoyed a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. Both were fantastic but I think our trip to the Eden Project just had the edge - there was so much to see and do, it was educational and we learned so much. I think the Eden Project is one of my all-time favourite days out.
Let me know where you would like to visit in Cornwall or where you would recommend for our next trip.

Pin Me For Later
I went to St. Ives and Penzance years ago, and I would love to go again! My middle name is from Cornwall, and I had always hated it, when I got there, though, everything had my name on it, so I didn't feel as bad :)
