First of all, I am not an expert in this area, shockingly, I have only enjoyed a couple of places mentioned on this list. Definitely something for us to work our way through over the next few years.

Essentials for Family Walks
(ad - this section contains affiliate links)- These travel foldable waterproof seat mats are ideal for sitting down if it's been raining and the grass / bench are wet. Nothing worse than a wet bum!
- I love these Wildlife Guides for Kids - ideal for learning more about the plants and insects you spot on your walk
- This bug hunting kit for little ones comes with a backpack, magnifying glass, net, flashlight and more and is really reasonably priced.
- These insulated water bottles for kids are ideal for little ones and will keep their water nice and cool
- If you are looking to save money, take a flask of coffee rather than visiting a cafe. Here are some nice flasks/leak proof mugs worth investing in.
- Again, if you want to take snacks with you, I really like this snack storage box for kids and these are an absolute bargain - I use them to make DIY lunchables
- You can't trust the British weather and it's always handy to have a pac-a-mac in your bag
Some of the suggestions ventured into Yorkshire but I decided to keep these in the post as they are pretty easy to get to from North East England. Many people class Yorkshire as the North East anyway.
Finally, I am so sorry about this. I usually try and include accessibility links / info in my posts but during my research, this information has not been forthcoming.
I have also not tried a lot of the walks myself so cannot provide personal experience. If you would like to know about accessibility at one of these spots, I recommend asking in our UK Days Out Facebook Group here - there are over 8000 members so hopefully someone will be able to help.
Finally, please familiarise yourself with safety advice for visiting areas with water, supervise young children, adhere to local lockdown rules and social distancing, park responsibly and leave no trace.

Linhope Spout
You will find Linhope Spout in the heart of Northumberland National Park. Enjoy the beauty of the plunge pool, waterfalls and picnic spots nearby. Find out more over on the Northumberland National Park website here and more details of the accompanying 3 mile walk here.
Linhope Spout is next to Ingram Valley Picnic Spot which is one of our top recommendations for places to paddle in a stream.
Wooler is not too far away and I recommend stopping at the Doddington Dairy Milk Bar before heading home.

Low Force
Low Force is a gorgeous waterfall near Barnard Castle in Count Durham. Find out more about visiting and directions here.

Hareshaw Linn
Hareshaw Linn is in Bellingham near Kielder. A lovely 3 mile walk with rare plant life and nature. Find out more and directions here.
Bellingham is home to some pretty unique tea rooms which are actually train carriages, we visited when we stayed at nearby Hesleyside Huts.

Falling Foss
Falling Foss is a stunning waterfall with a hidden tea garden near Whitby. Read more about Falling Foss here.

Hindhope Linn
Hindhope Linn can be found in a quiet spot in Kielder. The accompanying trail is just 1.25 miles long. Find out more about visiting Hindhope Linn here.
While in Kielder, you could try the Gruffalo trail, Salmon Centre or Minotaur Maze.
