I recently worked with NE1 Newcastle on a Social Media Campaign. This post is not part of that campaign and has not been paid / asked for.
We visited Newcastle mid-August and really had a brilliant day. Here are a few tips I have picked up......
1 - Make the most of our beautiful outdoor space
Lots of bars and restaurants have added extra outdoor seating plus we have some lovely city parks where you can enjoy lots of fresh air.
2 - Pre-book attractions online
Most attractions, including free museums require pre-booking at the moment. It pays to plan ahead. Scroll to the bottom of this post for more info about what is open at the moment.
3 - Public toilets are open
We found most of the public loos (if not all) to be open with minimal queuing and the were nice and clean.
4 - Pack a face covering (and bag), hand sanitiser & water bottle
You can refill your water bottles at a refill station. There is plenty of hand sanitiser everywhere you go but it always pays to have your own. Finally, remember a bag to place your face covering in when not in use. We use a washable sunglasses pouch and wash each evening with our covering.
5 - Look out for arrows & signage
6 - Bring a power pack
Lots of places require use of a mobile phone - virtual queues, ordering in restaurants, tickets for attractions / museums that need to be scanned, contactless payments.... Bring a power pack so you are not caught short.
7 - Use escalators over lifts and stairs
Much better for social distancing (and no queues).
8 - Pre-book restaurants / use virtual queuing systems
Some restaurants like Nandos have a virtual queuing system in place - take a photo of the QR code at the entrance (staff are there to assist if needed), complete the details and you will receive a text when a table becomes available for you.
9 - Remind kids not to touch anything in shops (unless they are going to purchase)
