Carriages Tearoom in Bellingham is a lovely quirky place to stop when visiting nearby Kielder / Hareshaw Linn or if you just fancy a trip out to Northumberland for a delicious homemade afternoon tea or bite to eat in a quirky setting.
At the moment, indoor tables should be booked in advance for meals/afternoon tea only. Outdoor seating is available without booking ahead (but it may be busy) for cake / drinks / scones.
Details correct as of August 2020 - please check opening hours etc... with venue direct before setting off.
Carriages Tearoom is so quirky as it is actually a converted train carriage. You will find them located on the platform of the old Bellingham Station - there is free onsite parking available.
The carriages have been restored from 1957 and still contain original seats and main fixtures and fittings.
They serve drinks, homemade cakes, light lunches, homemade ice cream, afternoon tea (pre-book) and Sunday lunches. At the moment they are open Wednesday - Sunday 10am - 4:30pm.
Our photos were taken during a visit in October 2018 during our stay at nearby Hesleyside Huts.
Since our visit, there has been a bit of a revamp and there is lots more outdoor seating too. They have added perspex screens above seating to protect customers.
We just stopped for warm drinks and cake on a blustery Autumn day - we ate it too quickly to take photos but I can vouch for how lovely they were. Proper doorstep portions. Delicious! I would love to book Afternoon Tea or Sunday Lunch here one day.
Call 01434 221151 to book.
Address: Carriages Tea Room. Station Yard. Bellingham. Northumberland. NE48 2DG.

If you wish to make a day of it, Carriages Tea Room is in the village of Bellingham which is nice for a little potter, it as its own playground too.
The Tea Room is a 2 minute drive from Hareshaw Linn which is a popular walking route / beauty spot and of course, Bellingham is the gateway to Kielder where you can enjoy the Gruffalo Trail through the forest and various outdoor pursuits.

What a quirky place but I love it! Have you ever been to the Anglers Arms at Weldon Bridge? They have a railway carriage which you used to be able to sit in, we haven't been for a while so not sure if you still can or not, but that was good!
