We worked with Inn Collection Group on a Social Media campaign in October 2020 but have not been asked or paid to share this blog post. I thought you would find it useful though.
Blast Beach, Durham |
The Inn Collection Group is a collection of lovely award-winning pubs with rooms in beautiful locations across North East England. We have visited a few over the years and always been really impressed by the warm welcome and delicious food.
Before I jump in, I want to thank the Inn Collection Group for building an accessible website - at the click of the button, the website is accessible with screen readers etc..... This is the first time I have visited a website with this function and I hope more follow suit (including myself - I need to look into how to do this!).

I thought I might share a few suggestions for days out followed by a pub meal where kids eat free. We love this kind of day out You cannot beat fresh air followed by a meal in a cosy pub.
The Lindisfarne Inn near Holy Island
The Lindisfarne Inn is just off the A1 near Berwick as you turn towards Holy Island. Perfect to combine with a trip to Holy Island, Berwick or if you are enjoying a mini break at Haggerston Castle up the road. Also ideal if you are travelling to / from Scotland as a stop off point.
The Bamburgh Castle Inn, Seahouses
The Bamburgh Castle Inn is a large, cosy pub with a huge garden overlooking Seahouses Harbour. It is a lovely place to stop after visiting nearby Bamburgh Castle or taking a boat trip to the Farne Islands.
Over Half Term Bamburgh Castle is running a series of events including learn how to strike a Halloween coin and Marley the Pony cart rides around the castle,
The Hog's Head Inn, Alnwick
The Hog's Head Inn is just off the A1 near Alnwick. The perfect place to visit for a bite to eat after visiting nearby Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Garden, walking from Craster to Dunstanburgh or visiting Barter Books.
Over Half Term, Alnwick Castle will offer Broomstick Training and Archery on selected dates and Alnwick Garden is hosting a spooky Halloween Trail with a free Trick or Treat bag for all children.
Read about our trip to The Hog's Head Inn back in 2017 here.
The Amble Inn, Amble
The Amble Inn is located on the outskirts of Amble which as you know, is one of our favourite places to visit. We love wandering around the Harbour village and walking along to the beach huts.
Nearby, you can enjoy Amble Harbour, Warkworth Castle, Cresswell, Druridge Bay Country Park, Low Hauxley Nature Reserve or Woodhorn.
Over Half Term, Woodhorn is hosting a Pumpkin Trail.
The Commissioners Quay Inn
The Commissioners Quay in Blyth is right next door to one of our favourite parks - Ridley Park. A lovely place to let the kids burn off some steam.
It is also not far from Blyth Beach, Plessey Woods, Northumberlandia and the Giant Spoon.
The Seaton lane Inn, Seaham
The Seaton Lane Inn is a beautiful pub in Seaham. We stayed here after spending the day hunting for Sea Glass on the beach and then walking to Blast Beach - both fantastic, free family activities.
The Kingslodge Inn
The Kingslodge Inn is located on the outskirts of Durham City Centre. A nice spot for a meal after visiting Durham Cathedral, walking along the river in Durham or visiting nearby Wharton Park (they have a similar Dinosaur Trail to the one we tried recently in Hardwick Park).
Check out our full review of The Kingslodge Inn here.
The Black Swan, Helmsley
The Black Swan is the only place on this list I have not visited myself. Located in the picturesque village of Helmsley, this pub dates all the way back to the 15th century.
The Black Swan is well located for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, York and Dalby Forest.
I hope I have given you some inspiration for local days out where kids eat free.
Don't forget to download, print and complete your voucher and hand it over when ordering. Also check the t&cs (vouchers valid until 30 November 2020).
