A few people have mentioned how fantastic Potter's World is in our Facebook group recently. I must admit I have not visited myself so thanks to a reader (Jenicath982 on Instagram) for sending through these photos and information for me to share.
There is no need to book in advance, simply turn up and pay admission on the day. I think Potter's World looks like a nice cross between soft play and a children's farm but at a really affordable price.
Just a quick note to say, Potter's World is great for all ages, especially the animal section but this post specifically focuses on things to do there for under 5s. Don't let that put you off visiting with older kids though as there is plenty going on for all ages. If anyone would like to write a post for me sharing a day out there with older kids and has some photos to share - just let me know and I will happily link it to this one.
Potter's World is within Lanchester Garden Centre in County Durham. Admission is £4 per person for a day ticket (under 1s are free) and includes:
- Tropical Village with snakes, reptiles, koi, lorikeet walk through, exotic free flying birds, amphibians and insects in a jungle like setting
- You can hold three animals of your choice for a small additional fee (around £3 per person)
- Birds of Prey area with daily encounters
- Little Potters Play Tunnels - an educational indoor and outdoor space for under 5s to explore as parent/carers relax. This includes an outdoor sandpit too.
You can pay once and come and go throughout the day so don't worry about popping out to the cafe.
- Potter's World is currently open Monday - Sunday 9am-4pm (last entry 3pm) in the summer months and 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm) in the winter.
- Address: Lanchester Garden Centre Bargate Bank, Lanchester. Durham. DH7 0SS

As well as Potter's World, there are also free entry areas to enjoy in Lanchester Garden Centre including:
- Restaurant with small kids area
- Aquatics centre
- Beautiful grounds and gardens (with trails available in the school holidays including a popular Troll Hunt - small charge of around £3 for the trail)
- Garden centre
- Outdoor duck pond
Small play area within the cafe/restaurant |
Our readers note that the restaurant on site is lovely but expect garden centre prices and there can sometimes be a bit of a wait. Example prices:
- £2.95 for a plain hot chocolate
- £2.95 for a cheese scone
- £6.50 for a hot kids meal
You can see the full restaurant menu here: https://lanchestergardencentre.co.uk/greenhouse-restaurant/
There is also a lovely takeaway deli and ice cream parlour which is perfect for a quite bite. They offer homemade quiche/pies/sausage rolls/cakes etc..... as well as picnic bags for kids (£3.99). Plenty of outdoor picnic benches to enjoy your takeaway items (you cannot bring your own food).
Potter's World/ Lanchester Garden Centre also offer a variety of party packages. You can find out more over on their party page here
