Admission to the upstairs area at Life is included with regular admission and looking at these photos, it looks super quiet and nice and clean. I know I talk about soft play alternatives fairly regularly (check out BALTIC too), but I have to say, this looks like one such place.
The New Play Zone upstairs includes some of the following areas:
- Role Play Area: Let little ones play make believe in a world just for them. They can create make believe meals in the kitchen and learn how to recycle properly. This area was always a favourite when my three were little so I am so pleased to see it has stayed.
- Light Play Area: Build your own creations and a soft play course.
- Book Nook: Relax in this dedicated area with a special book.
Under 7s can also enjoy pop up play stations which have been designed for this age group. At the moment, visitors can build a rocket and measure and create a giant marble run.
Don't forget to ask about Discovery Backpacks at reception (£10 refundable deposit). These backpacks are available for ages 0-4 or 4-7 and include musical instruments, toys and special glasses that allow you to see rainbows indoors.
Currently, Life Science Centre is open 7 days a week and admission is £13.50 per adult and £7.25 per child (aged 5-17). Children aged 4 and under go free. I think for a parent and pre-schooler visiting, £13.50 seems super reasonable. Obviously, it does get more expensive if you add more children and adults.

I used to often meet up with friends at Life when our children were toddlers during term time. The kids would play in the upstairs area which is nice and safe as we watched on and caught up with each other.
In the past, Life did run a popular pre-school day once a month with additional activities for pre-schoolers (we always loved the bubble disco) and entry was available at a discounted rate. I can't see any info to say these are available at the moment but fingers crossed they will make a return next year.

- Onsite cafe
- Free indoor packed lunch area for customers to enjoy their own food & drink
- Breastfeeding advocates and welcome everywhere (with a private room available if required)
- Highchairs available in the cafe and picnic area
- Bottle and baby food warming facilities in the cafe
- Baby changing facilities throughout the centre
- Fully accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs
- Free WiFi
Life is located very close to Central Station in Newcastle and very easy to get to by bus, train or Metro. The closest car park is Times Square Car Park.
It is super easy to combine a visit with the Discovery Museum which is free and just across the road.

At the moment, Life ask that you pre-book your tickets in advance if you can however there are a number of 'walk in' tickets available every afternoon too.
