This post shares some of the places you can enjoy a festive day out with your dog. I hope you find it helpful. Please note, dogs will need to be kept on a lead for all of these events and some events are likely to be busy which you should take into account.
Cullercoats Community Advent Trail
The Cullercoats Community Advent Trail runs from 1 - 24 December and will be a lovely option for a nice wholesome walk with the family, including your four-legged friend. A new window is revealed each day so you could visit more than once. Find out more here.
There are lots of dog friendly pubs nearby to warm up afterwards including The Queen's Head in Cullercoats.
Christmas Daytimes at Beamish
No booking is required and there is lots of Christmas fun to be had including a walk through Elf Wood and a chance to admire the festive window displays in the 1900s Town plus there will be lots of festive music performances across the month. Find out more here.
Winter Wanderers Spotters' Trail at Seaton Delaval Hall
Take a Winter Walk amongst the gardens with this special Winter Trail. Follow the stars to find your festive nature favourites. Included with NT membership/ admission and no booking required. Find out more & check dates / times here.
If you're looking for a nice dog-friendly pub nearby, I highly recommend the Delaval Arms or you could try the Keel Row or the Secret Garden Seaton Delaval too.
Christmas Present Hunt at Cragside

Frost Fest Live Weekend at Land of Oak and Iron
Land of Oak and Iron is super dog-friendly, they even have homemade dog treats for sale in their cafe. Frost Fest Weekend takes place across 3 & 4 December and includes a weekend of fun including live music and a mischevious elf trail. No booking required. Find out more here.
Saltburn Ice Sculpture Trail
Taking place on 17 December in Saltburn, this FREE ice sculpture trail is a lovely alternative dog walk. We did this with Ollie last year (when the event was in Redcar) and had a lovely time. No booking required. Find out more here.

Find the Raby Reindeer at High Force
During your walk down to High Force Waterfall, you can collect Christmas Clues and see if you can find Rudolph and his friends along the way. Afterwards, warms up with hot chocolates by the fire at the High Force Hotel (dogs welcome in the bar). No booking required. Find out more and check dates here.

Dogs are welcome to join in with the 12 Days of Christmas Trail which runs across Raby Castle Deer Park this festive season. Follow the clues of the famous festive song and enjoy the natural winter wonderland. Find out more & check dates here.
Christmas Late Night Shopping Events at Royal Quays
Dogs are very welcome to join you at Royal Quays and are allowed in a lot of the stores and cafes there too (see this post for more info). Late night shopping week runs from 19 - 23 December and there is a whole host of free events taking place at the centre including Meet the Gruffalo (I am definitely tempted to take Fozzy to this) and a Christmas Light Show. Coal & Ice at Woodhorn
This stunning ice trail takes place across 5 & 6 January. Themed around climate change, the animal themed sculptures are a magical way to explore the museum. Dogs are welcome but this event is expected to be busy. Find out more & book here.
Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor areas of the cafe at Woodhorn and in the bar at the nearby Widdrington Inn Pub.
Lazy Bear Festive Tipi
The Lazy Bear Festive Tipi outside Newcastle Central Station welcomes dogs. Pop in for epic hot chocolates, mulled wine, pies and desserts by the fire pits. Find out more here.
Doggy Festive Afternoon Tea at South Causey Inn
You can book dog-friendly afternoon tea in the farmhouse at South Causey Inn this festive season. The humans will receive festive afternoon tea and dogs will receive doggy ice cream. Santa will make an appearance with gifts for all and a photo opportunity with your pooch and there will be prizes for the best festive outfits. Children's options are available too. Santa Paws Grotto for Dogs at Dobbies
I love this idea! Take your furry friend to visit Santa at Dobbies Garden Centres. Each pooch will receive a gift from Santa too. You can add children's tickets onto your booking (they will receive a gift from Santa too) but if you're a family with teens/children who don't wish to see Santa, this event is probably one to miss as only 2 people can attend with your dog. - find out more & book here
Festive Snowflake Trail at Northumberlandia
This self-led trail (download to your phone) takes place at Northumberlandia on 10 & 11 / 17 & 18 December. Hunt for the hidden snowflakes and answer the wildlife questions along the way. Completed trails will receive a small (human) chocolate treat. Find out more here

The Castle is hosting a '12 Days Of Christmas' event which looks out of this world. If there are a few of you visiting, some of you could wait in the Tack Room / grounds with the dog while they others visit the Castle. We're planning on doing this.
Tanfield Railway & Aln Valley Railway are hosting Mince Pie Specials between Christmas and New Year. I assume these will be dog-friendly but I am waiting for them to get back to me to confirm. Many Christmas Markets / Light Switch Ons / Parades will be dog friendly but are also likely to be extremely busy which is why I haven't included them in this specific post.
