I've broken this post down into top picks, then there's a section for free and £1 events and then events are listed in date order so you can scroll through and start planning your activities.

FREE Liz Million and Paul Cookson Interactive Drawing

📍 Wallsend Library, Sat 7 Dec at 9:30am, 10:30am and 11:45am

✏️Paul will be performing funny poems with his ukulele (expect lots of fun interactive elements) while Liz creates lots of big, fast-paced drawings alongside. After the performance, you’ll learn from the experts how to create your very own piece of art.

FREE The Greediest Christmas Elf Performance with Games and Christmas Crafts

📍 Wallsend Library, Sat 14 Dec from 10am-12noon (performance at 10am)

🧝Take a seat at Santa’s workshop – you will meet an elf, listen to stories and dance along as the magic of Christmas is brought to life through charming puppetry in this fun show for the whole family. The performance is followed by Christmas crafts and festive games with Tinker the Elf.

FREE Special Appearances from Paddington™

📍 Forum Shopping Centre, Sat 14 Dec 11:30am - 3:45pm (intervals across the day)

Come along and say hello to Paddington at the Forum Shopping Centre. Appearances will be at intervals between 11.30am and 3.45pm.

FREE The Frog Prince - Christmas Theatre

🐸 Theatre Space North East returns with a vibrant brand of fairytale telling - full of life, humour, puppetry, song and a festive twist for audiences of all ages to enjoy.

🌲The is a gorgeous Christmas show suitable for ages 3+ packed with original live music, playful puppetry and feel-good storytelling which will leave you with all the festive feels.

🌲The show has positive messages about being yourself and acceptance as we follow Tinsel and his chance to shine.


🌲Performed in an beautiful theatre space, this is an intimate performance and you can meet the characters too.

(ad) Christmas at Gibside 




🎅Visit Father Christmas at Gibside - Book Now 🎅


Enjoy festive tales with Father Christmas in this fun and interactive session where children will be invited to take part in the fun. There will be a chance to take family photos with Father Christmas before waving goodbye.


Afterwards, children will be invited into Father Christmas’s workshop where they’ll join the elves and create their own Christmas keyring and card to take home.


This experience is £25 per child (accompanying adults go free) + National Trust membership / usual admission.


This is a 55 minute experience and relaxed sessions are also available.


Taking place every weekend from 23 Nov - 22 Dec plus Mon 23 Dec. Booking is essential.

🌟Follow the Stars to Father Christmas’s Stables - Drop In Winter Trail 🌟


This magical winter trail is included with National Trust membership / admission on a drop in basis during normal opening hours from 16 Nov - 5 Jan.


Visitors can follow a trail of winter stars up to the Gibside Stables. You’ll find the reindeer are out flying for the day so you can sneak a peek into their stalls and listen to a magical reindeer story.


Father Christmas’s sleigh will be parked up in the courtyard in preparation for Christmas Eve so make sure you snap a pic.


🧚‍♀️Woodland Fairy Trail - Drop In Winter Trail 🧚‍♀️


The mischievous fairies are back! Pick up an activity sheet on arrival and explore secret nooks to uncover their magical winter world.


Find toadstool seats for impish elves and the miniature homes of playful pixies and if you truly believe in magic, you might just catch a glimpse of the fairies hiding in the woodland.


Included with National Trust membership / admission. Drop in during opening hours from Sat 23 Nov - Mon 5 Jan.

🤶🏻 Mrs Christmas Storytelling in the Reading Room

Grab a beanbag and enjoy a traditional Christmas story shared by Mrs Claus in the House. This is a drop in event and included with admission/membership. We've taken part a few times and it's always really sweet. Check dates and times in the link below.


🎅 Walkaround Father Christmas

Father Christmas will be wandering around the House on weekends in December between 11:30am & 3pm and he'll try and say to as many of you as he can. This is drop-in and included with admission / membership. It's always a lush little surprise when you turn a corner and meet Father Christmas himself or are able to give him a little wave across the room.


🥂Prosecco and Mince Pies

This is such a festive treat - Prosecco (inc a non-alcoholic version) and Mince Pies are available to purchase and enjoy by the Christmas Tree in the House on weekends in December.


🎶 Live Christmas Music in the Hall

This is one of my favourite things about visiting Wallington in December. On selected dates, you can take a seat by the Christmas Tree and enjoy beautiful Carols and Festive Music. I love that you can hear them as you wander through the house too. It creates a lovely atmosphere. Included with membership / admission, just drop in. Check dates and times on the link below.

💪  Blanket Arm Knitting Workshop

In this 2 hour workshop, suitable for all levels including beginners, you'll learn how to create all of the stitches you need (and cast off using your arm) to create your very own chunky blanket. All materials are provided and it's designed to be a fun and theraputic activity. This takes place on 4 Dec and is chargeable, booking essential (see link below).


📖 Book Folding Workshop

Learn how to create beautiful book folded Christmas Trees using the techniques on display in the House Library in this small group workshop. This event takes place on 11 Dec and is chargeable. Booking in advance is essential (see link below).


🎅 Pre-School Father Christmas Experience

Taking place on 18 December, little ones can listen to a story with Mrs Christmas, make their very own Christmas decoration to take home and of course meet the main man himself, Father Christmas in the cosy Reading Room. A gift is included. Booking in advance is essential (see link below).

(ad) Christmas at Seaton Delaval Hall 




Here's a little look at what to expect:


❄  Special Late Night Opening on 13 & 14 December.

Extended opening until 8pm and a chance to enjoy the hall's twinkling lights after dark. No need to book, included with admission / National Trust Membership.


❄ Robin's Winter Trail 30 Nov - 5 Jan.

Drop in during normal opening hours and collect a complimentary trail sheet on arrival. There will be several winter challenges to complete including finding the reindeer, playing jingle bells on the mushroom drums and a panto challenge. Included with admission / National Trust Membership


❄ Festive Crafts for Under 5s (drop in 11am-2pm)

6th December - Lollipop Snowflakes

13th December - Christmas Tree Decorations

20th December - Paper Plate Baubles

27th December - Paper Tube Fireworks & New Years party hats

3rd January - Hand print snow globes Included with National Trust Membership / Admission.


❄ Christmas Carols

Performances will take place in the Stables, so you can enjoy them whatever the weather. Included with National Trust Membership / Admission. Just drop in.

❄ Aurora Strings Performances

Sundays 12noon-2pm, 1 - 22 December

Live music from the North East's leading string quartet. Performances will take place on the Baroque stage in the West Wing, complete with traditional wintery scenery and plenty of festive sparkle. Included with National Trust Membership / Admission


❄ Wreath Making Workshops

Friday 6 & Saturday 7 December, 1-3pm

Booking essential. All tickets £45, suitable for over 14s. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets include all materials, plus mince pies and mulled wine (or alternative).

🎖 The AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great North Run takes place on closed roads around the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside, making it a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Minis aged 3-8 take on a daring 1.2km dash, while Juniors aged 9-16 tackle a 4km supercharged sprint.


🎖 There’s nothing quite like the amazing sight of thousands of happy, smiling, active kids taking part for fun, for charity, for a challenge and earning a very special medal for their efforts (omg - the faces in these photos are just adorable!).


🎖 With plenty of encouragement and high fives from the crowds, it’s an action-packed day with an atmosphere like no other.
