This summer, I imagine many families will be flocking to the market town of Alnwick thanks to a certain local attraction that has recently opened. 

However, as we often spend much time over the summer holidays in Alnwick anyway, I thought it would be a nice idea to let you know about all the other things you can be enjoying in this corner of Northumberland.

Barnard Castle is a charming market town in County Durham. Sitting on the bank of the River Tees, it's a lovely place to visit for a day trip and is equally a fantastic base for a short break with lots to see in the area. It's known for its medieval castle ruin, cobbled streets and perhaps more recently, the place to go if you'd like an eye test.
