This post is based on a visit in November 2023.
We visited Lazy Bear Tipi on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November while we were out celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was the first bar we visited so we got there for opening. In fact we were the first ones there which why it looks so quiet in my photos.
It soon filled up though and I imagine it gets busy on an evening. There is a regular programme of live music available - you can check what's coming up soon on their social media.
You can't miss the pop up tipi which is located just in front of Newcastle Central Station.
Dogs on leads are welcome and you can bring your kids along if you visit before 9pm. No need to book.

I absolutely love the vibe of this place - twinkly lights, music and fire pits. What's not to love? The staff were on the ball too and kept our fire pit going for us.

In the immediate vicinity, you could team a trip here with a Christmas film screening / craft at The Common Room next door or Ice Skating / A Christmas Planetarium Show at Science at Life a short walk away.
Lazy Bear Tipi is open daily but if you visit Wed-Sun (see further down this post for timings), you can also order pizza from local legends Scream for Pizza.
Their pop up menu is short and sweet and the pizzas are smaller than the epic ones you'll get at their main venues but at £8-£9.50 per pizza, they're pretty good value.
Just order your pizza from the hatch outside and they'll give you a buzzer which will bleep when your pizza is ready. I liked this as it meant no standing around waiting. It's card payment only.

Drinks wise, there is a decent choice considering it's a pop up bar. You can see the full drinks menu here but as a guide:
- Pint of Madri/Guiness £6
- Fruit Shoot £1.50
- Pepsi £3.50
- J20 £3
- Bottle of Corona £4.50
- Mocktails £4.50
- Cocktails £7.50 (or 2 for £12.95 in happy hour)
- Wine £6/£8 a glass or £22 a bottle
- Mulled Wine/ Cider £5
- Hot Chocolate £3 / £3.95
- Coffee £3
We shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio (Sauv Blanc wasn't available) and it was perfectly acceptable. It felt like good value at £22 in a city centre location but I wouldn't say it was the best wine I've ever had or somewhere you should rush to if you love fine wine.
They run a couple of special offers which are good value:
- Pizza and a Pint for £12.50 on NUFC home match days
- Two cocktails for £12.95 all day Sun-Thurs
Just mention these deals when ordering.
If you're looking for bars to visit nearby, we visited Tickets which is just behind the Tipi and a quirky bar transformed from the station's old ticket office. We then walked along to the Vermont and tried their rooftop Bar Above which has some of the best views in Newcastle.
Finally we ended our day with another bottle of wine in our favourite bar Hibou Blanc on High Bridge.
I'd recommend all of these places! You can watch a video of our day here: Day Drinks in Newcastle Video
They were generous with toppings and the pizza was as great as always. No doubt we'll be popping in for another soon! One between two as a little snack with wine was fine for us but if you were visiting for a proper meal, I'd order a pizza each.
Lazy Bear Tipi is now open daily (I imagine they will close for the season at some point in January but this has not been confirmed yet). There are no bookings - just drop in, order a drink and grab a seat.
We really enjoyed our visit and I think just over £30 for a bottle of wine and pizza to share was excellent value. I'll be back to try their mulled wine soon!
Opening hours are as follows:
- Monday-Thursday 11am-midnight
- Friday-Sunday 12noon-midnight
- Wednesday - Friday 5pm-10pm
- Saturday 12noon - 10pm
- Sunday 12noon - 6pm
